Special Thanks to 20/20 for their excellent coverage of the deceptive practices of the unfair BBB. We have been reporting on these exact same issues since 2007. Thanks again 20/20 for putting a word wide spot light on the scams of the BBB.
Commentary: The BBB must be held accountable for their illegal and unjust actions. Mechanic's Responds.com® News, LLC is VERY aggressive in Investigating, Identifying, Exposing, Commenting on, and Responding to any News Worthy Story specifically involving the unfair BBB, Corruption, Unfair Practices, Injustice, and Consumer Abuses Against Business.
Mechanic's Responds.com News, LLC filed a Formal Complaint today with the OCA (Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs) concerning its association with the Atlanta BBB.
Mechanic’s Responds® has been reporting since 2007 that the Metro Atlanta BBB loves to turn its enemies, like Mechanic's, into the OCA, and other State Agencies, in order to cause "pain" to companies that dare speak out against the BBB or dare not to pay the BBB extortion money (so called "BBB Membership Fees").
Georgia Attorney General Continues to Be Duped by BBB
Recently, we saw an expose on the business practices of the Better Business Bureau. On Friday, November 12, 2010, ABC's 20/20 ripped an AAA-hole through the BBB. According to the report, anyone with $425 can obtain the coveted BBB accreditation. Some folks obtained it in 12 seconds other took 12 hours. Prominent personalities like Wolfgang Puck and high-class hotels like Ritz-Carlton that refused to pay the BBB for membership suffered failing grades. Terrorist organizations like Hamas and Neo-Nazi groups were fortunate to pass the BBB's rigorous standards.
The report went on to ponder the fees rolling in from businesses buying the BBB accreditation and where the money was going. It appeared that a BBB executive in this nonprofit organization made somewhere near $300,000 to $400,000. And all in this dreadful economy.
Even the Connecticut Attorney General is up to speed on the BBB. He posted on his website:
Attorney General Statement Regarding BBB Rating System September 9, 2010
“I remain concerned about the Better Business Bureau’s rating system and my office’s investigation is continuing. We have reached no conclusions. My office last month wrote the Connecticut BBB requesting information regarding my concerns -- especially the role of dues in determining ratings and potential harm to businesses that decline to join -- and we await a response. My office is reaching out to BBB to help facilitate a response. BBB ratings should be based exclusively on performance, honesty and responsiveness. Rankings should not be affected by membership in the BBB. Any suggestion or appearance of ‘pay-to-play’ threatens to undermine the accuracy and credibility of the BBB’s ratings, potentially misleading consumers and unfairly tainting nonmember businesses.”
So when we went to the Georgia's Attorney General website, we were shocked to discover that Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker refers consumers and business to this fraudulent and deceptive business.
Navigating the Georgia Attorney General's website to Home > Consumer Information > Consumer Resources, we discovered the following: Better Business Bureau The Better Business Bureau is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting fair and ethical business practices. They maintain a database of information on over 14,000 companies, and have several offices in Georgia . To look up a particular business, go to http:/www.atlanta.bbb.org/search.html. You can find the BBB office nearest you at http://lookup.bbb.org, or file a complaint at http://www.atlanta.bbb.org/complaint.html.
Further research on the Georgia Attorney General's website found under Home > Consumer Information > Consumer Links: Better Business Bureau A link to the national website of the Better Business Bureau. Please be aware that while the Better Business Bureau provides information on businesses and charities in your area as well as nationally, it is not a governmental agency.
It appears to us that Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker actually endorses the Better Business Bureau. Perhaps he hasn't seen the BBB 20/20 report or the thousands of complaints and reports that litter the internet. But he should. He has top people working for him.
His office has a vision. It is partially stated here: "Vision We will provide the people of Georgia with an independent Department of Law committed to excellence in our work. We will set the standard for quality management in state government and will be staffed by well-trained, highly motivated, innovative and diverse people working as a team in a pleasant environment."
Hopefully, the commitment to excellence and the well-trained, highly motivated, innovative and diverse people working for Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker will remove all reference to the BBB from the website and all other nooks and crannies in our government.
And hopefully the Attorney General will order the BBB to change their slogan from "Starts with Trust" to something truthful like: "Starts with Trust. Ends with Profit." Ca-ching!
Mechanic’s Responds® will advise its readers if we receive any comment from the GA OCA.
Clearly, the BBB (Better Business Bureau) is a scam.
